Morning Glory Inn offers her guests the charm of a restored
century home, herb gardens and a long stretch of private beach. Morning
Glory Inn was built in 1864 by the Rev. Robert McCune to house the First
Congregational Church of Kelleys Island. Many of the original features are
still present. Antiques of the period decorate each room, and in the gardens
herbs of those early days abound. The private beach is a wonderful place for
just relaxing or watching the great Blue Heron fish along the shore. Or
perhaps create your own collection of fossils dating back millions of years.
Morning Glory Inn offers a lovely private suite for your enjoyment. The “Country Garden Suite” is a one-bedroom suite
with a private bath and a private entrance. A lovely sitting room with a
fireplace and library makes for cozy evenings. A beautiful front porch
completes the “Country Garden Suite” where you can watch the morning sunrise
or evening shadows cross over the lovely reflecting pool outside your door.
Morning Glory Inn offers a very
tranquil atmosphere for her guests to watch the many birds on Kelleys
Island. Deer are also a part of our island and many evenings they cross the
yard going to the lake to drink.
This suite also offers a TV, air conditioning, mini refrigerator
and a wonderful continental breakfast. We can make arrangements to provide
sunset sailing cruises, or a dock space for your own boat. Spa delights such
as massage and yoga can also be provided.

Island History -
Morning Glory Inn is one of the oldest houses on Kelleys Island,
it was originally built by Reverend Robert McCune in 1864. Rev.
McCune had been the Union Army Chaplain at Johnson's Island, and
he was invited to come to Kelleys Island to start the Union
Evangelical Church. This was the first Protestant English speaking
church on Kelleys Island. Rev. McCune lived in the house and held
services here until a new church was built on Division Street.
Rev. McCune went on to become the editor of the Toledo Blade.
This home had a series of owners,
eventually being deeded over to the State of Ohio, from which it
was purchased in 1968 by the family currently owning the home. At
this time the house was in great disrepair. In 1969 it was moved
to the property from it's original location, near the Estes
School, and restored. A side addition was added in 1982. Original
elements still remaining include the siding, the French windows,
and many of the walls and floors.
